Dear Jonathan,
To see the CDROMLAN list archives please go to
http://listserv.boisestate.edu/archives/cdromlan.html It appears you can
search them too.
I must confess that I do not have any considerable experience of Axis
StorPoint. However, ITS do a new CD/DVD-Rom networking solution designed for
LANs called IRIS ep. IRIS ep runs on Windows 2000 Professional supporting 10
concurrent users or on Windows 2000 Server supporting more.
IRIS ep caches CD/DVD-Roms to hard disk, much like any other system,
however, applications are made available to users through their web browsers
and network drives are dynamically mapped. When a user clicks on an
application link IRIS ep checks to see if the application has been
installed. If it has not, IRIS ep can be setup so the user is guided through
installation (this process can be password protected) or IRIS ep can be
configured so only the administrator can install the search and retrieval
software.
Unlike other, more traditional, hard disk caching systems IRIS ep has
sophisticated license controls to ensure you do not infringe any of your
license agreements. The IRIS ep user menu is clear and easy to use with the
facility to include help text and links to online titles and other web
resources.
To find out more about IRIS ep please see:
http://www.itsltduk.com/irisep.asp
For high-end systems take a look at:
http://www.itsltduk.com/irisxp.asp
IRIS ep competes very well on price with systems like StorPoint.
Hope this is of some use,
