Hi,
In response to Jonathan's initial question and the subsequent replies,
Storlogic (www.storlogic.co.il) offers an alternative solution to sharing
CD-ROMs
over the network.
StorLogic's InfiniCache is a NT/2000/XP software-only product. The software
drivers cache the
CD/DVD-ROM to hard disk and then the created image is accessed by users
either as
another CD/DVD-ROM or as a normal subdirectory in the file system.
Accessing the imaged CD/DVD-ROM from the hard drive increases performance
and
scalability. As the software is running on a NT/2000/XP, authorization and
security is
handled by the operating system.
A unique feature is dynamic groupings which allows the administrator to
define rules to
automatically mount CD/DVD-ROM images in specified directories according to
the label name.
This is very useful when the site needs to support many CD/DVD-ROMs to
different classes of users
with different security needs.
You can think of it as a "jukebox killer", as the only limitation is the
storage capacity of the server.
For more information you can contact sales@storlogic.co.il
I hope this is useful ....

I'm faced with a proposal to migrate our ageing NetWare / SCSI Express /
CD Tower solution for serving CDs to a shiny new Axis StorPoint set up
(sounds like a jukebox but with cacheing capabilities for the
constantly-used CD titles). Sounds good, but I'm rather ignorant of
networked CD hardware solutions these days.
Has anyone got any views or positive/negative experiences to report if
they've been through a similar migration?
Also, are the CDROMLAN list archives still searchable anywhere?
Thanks in advance
Jonathan
