The mailbase has been set up to help to address some feelings of isolation of teaching staff in partner colleges that have been identified through discussions within the Associate College Network.
The purpose of the mailbase is as follows:
"To enable HE in FE practitioners to share ideas and information about general HE policy and practice within a wider FE context and to provide access to the wider academic community of Sheffield Hallam University. Subscribers to the service may use the mailbase to raise questions and issues about any matters to do with Learning, Teaching and Assessment, particularly as they relate to practice at Sheffield Hallam University. These issues may assist in the application of LTA practice in partner organisations and the advice and guidance offered to students about transition to HE at Sheffield Hallam University in particular. Teaching staff may also use the mailbase to raise questions about subject-specific matters which may be answered by other members of the list, or referred to colleagues for a response."
The list will be administered by Emma Jeggo, the Associate College Network Administrator at Sheffield Hallam University and will be hosted on the University's server. Please email Emma directly if you have any on-going queries about the list, or wish to raise issues or comments about its ongoing administration: e.jeggo@shu.ac.uk
This mailbase operates separately from, and in addition to, the national subject networks which exist through the Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN). Colleagues are encouraged to investigate the resources and services provided within the LTSN's subject centres through accessing the website at www.LTSN.ac.uk
The aim of the University-based mailbase is to provide an academic community which is specific to the University's Associate College Network, and is intended to be a relatively simple and easy to use service for all subscribers. If you have any feedback about the list, or have ideas for how the mailbase may be expanded and/or become more focused on a subject basis, then please let me know - Tracey.smith@shu.ac.uk.
