It is currently recognised that a major and often critical factor in
the success of IT products and services is how easily people can
learn and use computer software, systems and the Internet, and how
much they enjoy and benefit from the interactions they experience
while doing so. The benefits of incorporating usability into products
and services may be measured in terms of costs to the developing and
purchasing organisations and society generally. Financial costs
include the cost of developing software and systems and maintaining
them while in use. Other, often indirect, costs relate to such
factors as the reputation of organisations, as perceived by users of
software or systems. Benefits from incorporating usability frequently
translate into improved consumer confidence, trust, and company or
brand loyalty.

A growing focus on usability has developed with the emergence of the
world-wide web as a focal point for business (e-commerce) and as an
information resource. Usability in the development life cycle is
included in an increasingly diverse range of technological products
and mobile devices. Usability offers enormous benefits to
organisations in terms of productivity, efficiency and quality of
use, as well as increasing people's feelings of satisfaction when
using IT and Communications in their daily lives.

This stream plans to present the current state of usability research
and practice, and encourages contributions that discuss usability in
terms of industry and practice as well as research advances.
Contributions within a wide range of usability topics are welcomed,
including:

- Usability in interactive design and system development life cycle
- Methodologies and techniques
- Testing and evaluation
- Process and practice
- Usability engineering
- Cost-benefit analysis
- Guidelines and standards
- Usability issues in applications, such as e-commerce, web-based,
and interactive multimedia applications, mobile devices, consumer
  products, art and entertainment
- Usability in organisational contexts, including governmental,
  business and social environments
- Usability inclusive of people with special needs
- Universal usability, including cross-cultural and linguistic issues
